DALLAS MEMORIAL HOSPITAL

The Dallas Memorial Hospital post-partum unit not only incorporates quality care for patients, but will allow for efficient care. The post-partum areas will all have a cohesive, comforting design that allows for a home-like feel throughout the spaces. Each room will be equipped with enough furniture to allow for family and the new-born to join the mother in the room. The space plan of the unit is laid out with consideration to the nurse’s. The station is decentralized nurse station so that there are two bases for nurse’s to go to in between patient room visits. The nursery, medication room, and nourishment center will be centrally located to the patient rooms.  Curvilinear ornamentation guides visitors throughout the space, and lights are used as markers for visitors to navigate to main areas during the evenings. This ornamentation is branded through the curvilinear lines that are seen in the Memorial Tower and Thanksgiving Chapel in Dallas, TX. Overall, the space creates a connection to its’ location as well as a connection to celebrating the growth of a family.
